Changing your IP address:

First you will need a new IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS servers. These should be assigned to you by your ISP (Diode). If you only have a single computer and no router, here are the steps to use:

Single computer setup

Click Start, Control Panel, and then Network (or network connections). If the next screen gives you more options, right click the local area connection you are using and then click properties. This should get you to a window that has a small white window in the center with other options. Find TCP/IP. If you have more than one, click the one that DOESN’T say dial-up next to it. Highlight your TCP/IP connections and then click properties. For Windows XP and NT users, all of your settings are in the first window after clicking properties. For Windows ME/98/95 users, all of your settings are here, but they are under other tabs. Enter all of your settings that were assigned to you and click OK, then Click OK again. Windows ME/98/95 users will have to reboot for these settings to change.

Multiple or single computer setup with Router

For those of you using a router or firewall appliance, you don’t need to make any changes to your computer. Using a computer with internet access, open Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. In the address bar, type http://192.168.1.1 and hit enter (some routers you’ll have to enter http://192.168.0.1) you’ll be prompted with a username and password box. The defaults are generally:

Username: admin
Password: password

Username: <leave this blank>
Password: admin (or sometime password)

If you’ve changed these, you’ll have to enter your own username and password that you’ve changed. With Linksys routers, you’ll find the settings on the first page you come to. Just replace the old settings with the new ones that were assigned to you. With Netgear routers, you may have to click on the left side where it says IP setup (or something to that effect). There you can put in your assigned settings.

XBOX and PS2 setup

If your consoles are behind routers, you’ll just have to change the settings in the router. If you have IP’s in the consoles, you’ll have to consult your manuals on how to change them.
